Dynamic driver and vehicle analytics based on vehicle tracking and driving
Issued: July 9, 2024 US Patent: 12,033,447
Driver safety, vehicle safety, and environment safety may be scored based on a variety of input data concerning a driver, a vehicle, or an environment in which the vehicle drives. An overall safety score may be generated based on at least some of these three scores. These scores may be compared to thresholds to trigger or initiate actions such as providing notifications to drivers, raising or reducing vehicle insurance rates, providing coupons and promotions to drivers, or limiting vehicle speed in a manner that is personalized to the driver and/or vehicle and/or environment.
Driver alertness warning system and method
Issued: Feb 20, 2024 US Patent 11,904,685
The present disclosure is directed to systems and methods avoiding collisions by monitoring the presence and alertness of a person in a vehicle. The alertness of that person may be monitored by identifying actions performed by that person when an automated driving assistant is used in a vehicle. Systems and method consistent with the present disclosure may monitor the alertness of a person that is located in a driving position of a vehicle according to criteria associated with particular individuals or with criteria associated with specific protocols. When a system or method consistent with the present disclosure identifies that a person is not alert, a corrective action may be initiated that reduces likelihood of a collision.
Enhancement using analytics based on vehicle kinematic data
Issued: December 12, 2023 US Patent 11,842,404
A computer-implemented method includes receiving from a telemetric apparatus carried by a first vehicle an identity of an operator of the first vehicle and kinematic data characterizing movement and first location of the first vehicle. At least one weather condition associated with the first location is received from a source of environmental data. At least one of terrain geometry of the first location, road speed limit at the first location, vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) data generated by an instrument proximate the first location, and vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) data generated by an instrument proximate the first location is received from a source of location-specific data. The data received by the first communication device is stored in a database. Data from the database is provided to at least one entity.
Vehicle operation analytics, feedback, and enhancement
Issued: December 5, 2023; US Patent 11,836,802
The present disclosure is directed to methods and apparatus for controlling a vehicle based on motion or kinematic data received by a computer when the behavior of a driver is being monitored. Such methods and apparatus may generate one or more safety indices that may include a driver score, a vehicle safety score, and/or an environment safety score. These safety indices may optionally be weighted and combined into an overall safety score, grade, or index. The safety scores or indices may be used to generate a personalized speed threshold or acceleration threshold for a vehicle and/or a driver of the vehicle. Methods and apparatus consistent with the present disclosure may result in the speed of a vehicle being reduced, an increase in vehicle location accuracy, or functions such as headlights or windshield wipers or automated driving assistance being turned on to increase safety.

Apparatus and methods consistent with the present disclosure may receive location information from an electronic device that is located at a vehicle and may provide information to the electronic device that controls the maximum speed of the vehicle as speed limits change along the route.
Predictive annotation of relevant road information based on vehicle location and identity
Issued: July 11th, 2023 US Patent 11,699,309
The present disclosure is directed to dynamically analyzing data and conditions associated with the movement of a vehicle. A processor may evaluate vehicle location and speed information when identifying an amount of navigation data to send to a computer at a vehicle. The amount of information sent to the computer may vary based on the vehicle speed, a type of road that the vehicle is able to drive along, or may vary based on other attributes. The information sent to the computer may also relate to an area that the vehicle is anticipated to move through in a given time frame. Mapping data sent to the vehicle computer may be associated with a larger area when a vehicle is moving at a faster speed and may be associated with a smaller area when the vehicle is moving at a slower speed.

Driver history via vehicle data acquisition and analysis
Issued: October 25, 2022 US Patent 11,481,713
Driving behavior for a particular driver may be gathered and analyzed over a time period, such as a year or a duration of the driver’s employment at a particular employer. The driving behavior is received by a server from a positioning device as multiple streams of position data at different time stretches throughout the time period, each stream of position data associated with a route of a plurality of routes driven by at least one vehicle. The server generates speed data from the streams of position data and compares the speed data to retrieved speed limit data for those routes. The server generates a report with at least a speeding percentage value corresponding to how often the driver was speeding while driving during the time period. The report is then sent to the driver’s computing device.
